Updated: Jan 31
International Women's Day is an annual celebration commemorated on March 8. It is a day in which the historical struggle of women for equal rights and the fight against discrimination and gender violence is recognized. International Women's Day has its roots in the garment worker protests in New York in 1908, and has since evolved to become a global day of action to promote gender equality. Events and activities organized on International Women's Day include parades, conferences, fairs and exhibitions, and other activities to raise awareness of gender equality. Globally, in some countries it is a public holiday.
